A Letter to  Scuba World

I wanted to write to thank you for all you and your staff did to make us feel comfortable and welcome.

The professionalism you and your staff showed while training my daughter was second to none.

I was trying to think of a way to describe what a great job Jim and the staff did, and I think it will be better than my words if I tell you a story:

As you know we took a cruise to the Bahamas right after Sarah’s certification dives. We booked a 2 tank morning dive and a 2 tank afternoon dive with a well known Dive center in Nassau. After the morning dives, while we were eating lunch back at the Dive Center -  the Divemaster and the Cameraman both came up to me and asked how old Sarah was. After telling them that she was 10, they asked how long has she been certified. I told them that she did her checkout dives just 5 days ago…..They were shocked – The Divemaster said that he has never seen a new diver (let alone a 10 year old) with the confidence, grace, and buoyancy control that Sarah showed that morning.

I guess the best compliment I can give you is that my son Joshua will be ten next summer….We will be singing him up with you and your team for his own scuba camp for sure.

Best Regards,

Doug B.

Dive Gear Tune-Ups

Its that time of the year when our dive gear comes out of the closet and we begin planning our 2012 dive trips.

Don't wait until the last minute to get your dive regulator checked out and tuned up.  Leaky first or second stages can really ruin a dive trip.  Plan now to bring your gear by the shop and have one of our equipment specialist check your dive regs.

Check everything that is rubber.  Rubber has a tendency to dry out, crack, and break at the least opportune times.  Mask and fin straps are notorious failure points.  Consider replacing fin straps with Atomic spring straps.  You will love the easy on easy off use.  Another great idea is to have an "emergency" back up kit with a spare mask strap and fin strap.  Some of us carry a spare mask.

Leaky valves on BC's can devour your air supply cutting short your dive.  Sticky dump valves can create uncontrolled ascent issues that could prove dangerous.

Be proactive.  Don't let you primary dive gear fail you.  Plan now to pull everything out of storage and give it a good once over.  Don't let poor planning wreck your first dive of the year.
